Kobukan Martial Arts was founded in 1989 by Dean C. French.  Mr. French has been a student of the martial arts since 1982 and currently holds the rank of Hachidan, 8th Degree Black Belt, as well as the teaching grade of Hanshi.  Additionally, he is the author of the book entitled "Essential Okinawan Karate-Do."
